Oh Su-fan
Oh Su-fan (born, 1946, Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do) is a South Korean painter and professor. One of the pioneers of Korean modern art, Oh is known for his experimental approach to Western matière and Eastern calligraphy. Using the Western conventional medium of oil paint, Oh creates variations in bold black calligraphic strokes. The strokes transition from Korean calligraphy, to cartographic symbols, and pure abstract lines to express Eastern ideologies of ethnic shamanism, Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. In the mid-1980s Oh embarked on the ''Gok-sin'' (God of the Valley, ) series after Lao-tzu's Taoist philosophy of reaching the state of oneness through emptiness and nothingness. Oh created the ''Tranquility'' (적막) series in the 1990s, the ''Variation'' (변화) series in the early 2000s, and the ''Dialogue'' series in the 2010s. Oh has a B.F.A from Seoul National University, and has had solo exhibitions in Seoul, Tokyo, and Stockholm. He was the South Korean representative at the International Association for Aesthetics Conference in 1983, Helsinki, Finland. He is currently a professor emeritus at the Seoul Women's University teaching Western painting. ==External links==
